Barbie & Inspiring Girls help close the leadership Gap
Only one in five girls can name a female leader outside their family.
Our new research with the Barbie Dream Gap Project proves that our LeadHership programme combining skill development, confidence building, and diverse role models close that gap.
6 Key Findings:
Women are underrepresented in leadership roles across every sector and on every continent. Despite clear evidence about the advantages of including women at the upper echelons of corporate leadership and governance, they continue to beunderrepresented, particularly in finance, technology, energy, supply chain, manufacturing, and infrastructure.
Empowering girls to take on leadership roles at a young age can set them up for future success. Starting small by taking on leadership roles at the school- or community-level can help build confidence in young women that they can use throughout their careers.
Leadership workshops build confidence in young girls. After conducting workshops across 7 different countries, we found that participants reported feeling more confident and more prepared to seek out leadership roles in their day-to-day lives than before attending.
Helping girls understand the true meaning of leadership is key to developing their skills and inspiring future generations. Leadership workshops shifted girls’perceptions from seeing leadership as a purely practical, outward-facing role torecognising it as a source of personal and collective empowerment.
Female role models play a vital role in inspiring young girls to see themselves as future leaders. Despite this, only half of workshop participants had a female role model, and among them, just a third identified someone outside their family. Showcasing female leaders in society can encourage girls to aim high, especially as their greatest concerns revolve around challenging societal norms and facingjudgment from others.
Leadership workshops empower young women to set and achieve their goals. Participants not only accomplished the goals they set before the workshop but also established new ones afterward, allowing them to be more intentional with their future actions.
