International Women's Day 2022

by Daniela

On International Women's Day, our wonderful Young Ambassador from Switzerland, Daniela, has chosen to write about her involvement in Inspiring Girls International and this years International Women’s Day theme, #BreakTheBias! Daniela wishes to encourage more girls to join Inspiring Girls as a Young Ambassador to represent their country team, reminding all girls that in order to pursue their dreams, they must give it their all. Empowering, wise words from Daniela!

‘Be the leading character of your own life, not just a member of the audience!’

This is Daniela!  I'm 14 years old and I am originally from Spain. I have lived in Madrid, Spain; in Stuttgart, Germany and for the last 5 years in Zürich, Switzerland.

I live with my parents and my brother, Alejandro, who is only a year older than me, so we are very good friends. I am currently in the 3rd year of Gymnasium. I love my school because it encourages us to pursue our personal aspirations, to set ambitious goals as well as to develop the perseverance necessary to achieve them.

My school and my family define me and help me be myself, as do my friends, because I think that true friendship and social relationships are very important for our personal growth.

If someone asked me how I am, the first thing that would always come to my mind is that I try to be a happy girl.  Yes, happy!  I am always very positive, very responsible, caring, enthusiastic, and passionate when it comes to the projects I take on.  I really like changes, I'm not afraid to face them.

I have many interests such as dancing, music, swimming, drawing, and design.  I am always looking for new things to do and I love to set myself new challenges. I like to be organized and, since last year, I have incorporated my Bullet Journal as a habit in my life. I love designing covers, quotes, drawing and making my lists, which help me to carry out my day to day better.

My close female role models are my grandmothers, my mother, and my aunt. They have thought me to be a strong, hard-working woman and to be able to make my own decisions. I admire women with strong personalities, who set goals and objectives but above all are happy with their lives, which in the end, is what we all want.

This is also connected to my favorite book, "Little Women" by Louise May Alcott, because it shows four girls struggling to make their lives and be happy. My favorite character is Jo March, and I have many favorite quotes from her in my journal.

Since I discovered Inspiring Girls, I have been very attracted to this movement because it has shown me that with effort and perseverance, we can achieve anything we want. From the first moment, I wanted to be part of this Inspiring Girls international movement. Why? Because I believe that Inspiring Girls is a mirror that society needs, and I consider myself privileged that Inspiring Girls exists today. Inspiring Girls makes me feel that I am a girl without limits, and that I can become a woman without the traditional limits that unfortunately are placed on women. My own role models (my grandmothers, my mother, and my aunt) did not have this advantage

Now, as a Young Ambassador, I am happy to be part of this international movement, which is reaching more and more women and girls worldwide. Further, I see my own contribution, for example in interviews with different female role models that help us realize that there are a lot of careers and a lot of paths that we can follow to achieve what we want.

As an Inspiring Girls Young Ambassador in Switzerland, my message to other girls is that the most important thing for all of us is to become confident and independent women to make our own decisions and find inner and outer freedom. We can achieve it, we just have to believe in ourselves and create what we want in our lives.

I invite you to be part of this beautiful movement. Join us and become an Inspiring Girl!

We will be the leading characters of our lives and not just a member of the audience.

To pursuit this dream we must give our all!
