I am Miriam González Durántez, and I believe passionately that every young woman should feel free to choose whatever she wants to do in life. The only limit to her dreams should be the extent of her own efforts. Yet we know that by age 6, children are beginning to classify jobs along gender lines, and by the age of 12, 50% of girls aspire to gender stereotyped roles. This can have a huge impact on decisions which they make about their future education and career direction.
That is why I founded Inspiring Girls International. Because we want to make easy for girls all around the world to have access to female role models. There are millions of women out there doing amazing things, and young girls should be able to look to them to realise how many possibilities they have in life. Leading by example is the best way to show girls how they can achieve, which is why we put real women in front of girls to talk about their experiences.
Women and men of my generation have a duty to show to young girls that they are free to decide what to do with their lives. I want girls to aim high and work hard to achieve their dreams, whatever they might be. Because that is their right
