The Chair for Inspiring Girls International, Miriam González, has told the girls: ‘Aim high and try hard’.
Spain is one of the first countries where the campaign is implemented, along with Serbia, Italy and Zambia. Latin America, India and Australia will follow throughout 2017.
Marta Pérez Dorao, Chair of Inspiring Girls Spain, has said: ‘No matter what you want to become, always try your best and don’t let anyone to stop you from doing something because they think it is not for girls’.
Over 120 Government officials and representatives from all sectors attended the launch event in Madrid. Among others, the Deputy Secretary for Communications at the People Party (PP), Pablo Casado; the Italian and British Ambassadors to Spain; and the Chair of Inspiring Girls Italy, Claudia Parzani.
In Spain, only 29% of women are represented in STEM subjects. At the Ibex 25 companies level, just 9% of women are in top management positions. Also, there is a 23% of NEETs (young people aged 16-24 Not in Education, Employment or Training), well above the average in the OECD and Europe.
